車用發電機軸上一般有兩個軸承，分別支撐在驅動端蓋和電動端蓋上，驅動端帶有軸伸，通過其上裝配的皮帶輪來輸入動力。

車用發電機一般歸于用V型帶傳動的小型電機。

發電機軸伸上的皮帶輪一般采用螺紋擰緊，這時螺紋聯接受到預緊力的作用。擰緊力矩過大會造成軸上的螺紋失效，包括滑絲、壓潰等。
